Senior Independent Director Centrica, Non-Executive Director Swiss Re, Senior Adviser Chatham House
Mary Francis is a non executive Director of three multinational companies: Barclays, Swiss Re and Ensco (an offshore drilling group). She is also a member of the Takeover Appeal Panel and the Advisory Board of the Institute of Business Ethics, and a Senior Adviser to Chatham House. She has previously been Senior Independent Director of Centrica plc and a non executive Director of the Bank of England, Aviva, St Modwen Properties, Alliance & Leicester and Cable & Wireless Communications. She was judged ‘Non Executive of the Year ‘ in the non executive awards, 2012.
In her executive career Mary was a senior civil servant in the Treasury, the British Embassy in Washington and the Prime Minister’s office. She was deputy Private Secretary to the Queen 1995-99 and subsequently became Director General of the Association of British Insurers.
