Non-Executive Chairman of Carillion Plc, and BakerCorp Inc; Chairman designate Williams & Glyn; Senior Independent Director Saga Plc
Philip is chairman of Carillion PLC, the international construction and service business and non-executive chairman at BakerCorp, the Permira owned industrial services company in the US. He is chairman designate of Williams & Glyn, the UK “challenger” bank that is being divested by RBS; he will take over as chairman one year before the IPO which is planned within 2-3 years. Philip was appointed to the board of Saga as Senior Independent Director in May 2014 and was previously Chairman of Clarkson PLC.
Philip was CEO of United Utilities PLC; CEO of P&O Nedlloyd; Chief Operating Officer of Reuters Group; Chief Operating Officer for Europe and Africa at DHL.
He is the corporate responsibility adviser to UK Prime Minister David Cameron.
Philip is also chairman of Sentebale which is a charity set up by Prince Harry & Prince Seeiso to focus on disadvantaged young people in Lesotho. He is personally involved in several philanthropic projects in southern Africa, including founder and patron of Hope Through Action. He has previously been a non-executive director of SKF in Sweden, Tibco in Palo Alto, USA, and the Lloyds Banking Group plc. He was a director of Business in the Community, 2008 – 2014.
He holds an MBA from the London Business School and a BA (Hons) from the University of Wales. He is an Honorary Fellow of Liverpool John Moores University.
Philip is married with two daughters.
