Gareth’s final year with Diageo was served as an advisor to the CEO. Previously and until June 2013, Gareth was the human resources director of Diageo plc, the world's leading premium drinks business. He was appointed to this position in January 1999 and has been a member of the Diageo Executive Committee since that time. Gareth also has oversight responsibility for Corporate Relations in the company. Diageo employs around 27,500 people directly and over the past 12 years has expanded its business geographically to a point where its brands are sold in most countries of the world.
Gareth joined the former GrandMet Brewing Division in 1984 and moved through a number of positions to become director of management development and resourcing for the division in 1987.
From 1990 to 1994 he held a series of HR positions in GrandMet’s North American Spirits and Wine division (IDV) including the top HR position, before returning to the UK to become group organisation and management development director of GrandMet plc. In 1996 he became HR Director for IDV’s global business and in January 1998 took the same position in the combined Wines & Spirits business which resulted from the merger of Guinness and GrandMet to form Diageo.
Prior to joining GrandMet, he spent 10 years with Ford of Britain in a number of personnel positions at locations including Dagenham, Dunton and Halewood.
